Douglas Weidner

KM Institute Chairman & Chief Instructor

Douglas Weidner is a respected KM trainer, consultant, columnist, conference speaker and mentor. 

Douglas developed the internationally acclaimed Certified Knowledge Manager (CKM) and Master CKM Certification Programs, based on his KM consulting and training experiences. He first taught the CKM in June 2001 and through KM Institute, has  trained well over 6,000 Certificants worldwide.

He has trained, certified and advised KM leaders in most every U.S. Government Agency and all major U.S. military services and joint combatant commands, non-governmental organizations, and over one thousand commercial firms worldwide. His focus is on developing KM Institute's Knowledge Maturity Model (KMM™), the KM Transformation Solution™  and on expanding KMI's worldwide KM Certification offerings.

Douglas is an engineering graduate of the US Air Force Academy--MBA in Business Economics (UCLA), MSIE in Operations Research.

Eric Weidner

VP of Business Development

Eric manages KMI's marketing strategy, offering custom training solutions to clients, and leads the KMI Partner and Consulting Programs.  

Eric brings a successful sales and marketing background to KM Institute.  Prior to his role as co-founder of KM Institute (2004) and its predecessor KM firm, Eric led sales for IBM Global Services, where he helped professionals earn their Certifications from Microsoft and other technical training programs. He taught internal customer service teams and helped drive new business by adopting grass-roots sales initiatives.  In the mid-1990s, Eric helped grow a small start-up that became the first ever "online shopping mall" for the U.S. Federal Government.

Eric graduated from George Mason University in 1995 with a degree in Communications.


Brandon Weidner

Director of Production

Brandon Weidner leads KMI's e-learning development team.
Brandon has held sales and marketing positions for such firms as CA (formerly Computer Associates) and GTSI.  He is a co-founder of KM Institute and its predecessor; leading start-up efforts in both organizations, concentrating on marketing, member outreach and business development.  In 2007 Brandon transitioned to e-learning strategy & new product development full time.
Today, as a result of that focus the eCKM and other "e" courses are robust product offerings - as standalone solutions, or integrated into KMI's traditional classroom-based programs. Brandon's team continues to expand KMI's e-learning umbrella, helping KM educators reach more students via the proven power of the interactive medium.
Brandon graduated with a B.A. in English from Virginia's George Mason University.

Marie Jeffery

Director of Customer Experience

Marie is on KMI's marketing team, managing online strategies, with a focus on providing excellent customer service to students, instructors and consultants.   She manages program logistics, content marketing and social media efforts for KMI.  Marie's background includes sales and marketing roles in the interiors, arts and education spheres.

Marie holds a B.S. in Education from the University of Maryland, and has done graduate work in Human Resource Management at George Mason University.


Jack Merklein

​Co-Director of Course Development 

Jack earned his Certified Knowledge Manager (CKM) Certification (2000), and has been practicing KM for over 20 years.

KM professional work: Director of KM and distance learning for the US Army IG School; director of knowledge and learning for Xerox Global Services; worked for Northrop Grumman as a KM consultant to the USPS OIG; chief of knowledge and learning for Peace Corps. Currently the director of KM for World Vision International, and is an adjunct professor teaching KM for the University of Maryland University College and also serves as the course chair for their KM program.

Education:  BS in Engineering from West Point; MS in Human Relations/Organizational Development from Golden Gate University; PhD candidate in Knowledge Management from Walden University.

Jack is currently working with our internal team on restructuring and updating the CKM Program.

John Hovell

Co-Director of Course Development

John had already been practicing knowledge management for nearly 10 years prior to earning his certification in '07.  He has multiple degrees in Management Science and Information Technology. He earned his Project Management Professional certification in 2008. He has published several chapters in books, as well as magazines and other publications. He received the honor of being named “Top Young Trainer” of the year.

He is proud to offer an interactive approach based on individual readiness and needs. He earned his Organisation Development certification in Oxford, United Kingdom in 2016.

John is also a CKS (Specialist) Instructor for KMI's "Knowledge Transfer & Continuity" Certification.  Click here for more...
